Slow applications, poorly dimensioned data center infrastructure?
A few weeks ago, Jorge Marín, Service Delivery Manager at Aryse, offered a webinar under the title “Slow applications, poorly dimensioned data center infrastructure” and we decided to interview him. This is a question that many IT professionals have surely asked themselves, who have seen how the pandemic has exponentially increased the demand for digital services from customers and, with it, the need for an adequate infrastructure to support their online applications. In addition to having real-time visibility of the operation, performance and costs of the entire ecosystem.
Is the coronavirus health crisis accelerating the digital transformation?
Of course. The change was already happening. The pandemic has only made it worse. Digital services have changed our consumer habits, the way we work and relate to each other. The rules of the game have changed and the user/consumer demands hyper-personalized experiences where the performance of digital platforms directly affects customers’ decision-making. Digital applications and the infrastructure to provide these services have been put under severe stress during the pandemic in order to meet this growing demand.
Returning to the title of your webinar, what can be done from the IT side to make applications and data center infrastructures work optimally to meet the demand for digital services?
Today we find ourselves with a multitude of services offered by our businesses where a high number of applications consume many resources, sometimes limited or poorly dimensioned on an increasingly complex network infrastructure. For this reason, we must have a complete vision of our entire infrastructure, from not only the point of view of application performance but, also from the data center infrastructure that supports it in order to make an intelligent and real time analysis of the resources. There are tools on the market for this such as the intelligent Cisco Workload Optimization Manager software.
The potential provided by the use of analytics and automation allows us to intelligently know how many resources are really needed in our IT environments and to securely direct decision making in the optimization of the use of our infrastructure.
What are the benefits that the final client obtains with these tools?
Analyzing workload consumption, costs, compliance and automatically allocating resources in real time has two significant consequences for the customer’s business. On the one hand, a correctly dimensioned infrastructure allows us to meet the high workload demand of our applications, guaranteeing and providing the user/consumer with a good service and a good experience and, therefore, loyalty.
On the other hand, these tools reduce inefficiencies or, if we say it in positive, optimize the performance of the applications by providing the necessary resources at the time they are required, allowing to adjust the resources of the multicloud and hybrid environments, and that translates into an improvement of the costs.
Cisco Workload Optimization Manager provides a clear and accurate picture of the actual situation of the data center infrastructure and applications. Directing and guiding our customers in decision making, such as whether a renewal of the data center hardware is necessary, by performing a real-time simulation and generating proposals that may be the most appropriate to optimize our resources. To do so, it is essential to have complete visibility of the dependencies between the applications and the infrastructure that support them and to be able to correlate the events that occur in the different silos involved. Cisco is the first manufacturer in the market that has a tool that interrelates both areas.
