According to the survey “The Rise of the Business-Aligned Security Executive” conducted by Tenable globally on more than 800 companies and cybersecurity leaders, 94% of companies have suffered a cyberattack in the last 12 months.
The investigation reveals that even though 77% of organizations expect an increase in cyberattacks in the next two years, only a few have a full strategy to deal with this reality.
Only four out of ten leaders answered without any hesitation to the question “How safe are we?”. This is because not all business leaders have a holistic view of their organizations and of the strategies required to deal with each risk. For example, during COVID-19 pandemic, the 96% of the organizations interviewed, stated to have introduced special measures, but only 75% assured that such strategies were aligned with each other, or, in other words, that there was a synergy between cybersecurity and business strategy.
Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting computers, servers, electronic systems, networks, and data from any type of cyber-attack. A cybersecurity strategy aligned with business priorities helps to have a clear and panoramic view of the risks and the required changes to be made as the strategy is implemented.
According to study conducted by Tenable, the organizations where business and security strategies are clearly aligned, are:
- Eight times more able to report the level of security in the organization.
- Three times more able to set cybersecurity goals aligned with business priorities.
- Three times more able to have a holistic view of the entire organization.
- 90% of them believe that the investments in cybersecurity are generating positive growth to the business.
- 85% of them are able to measure the ROI of the investments in cybersecurity and the impact on business goals.
